Single Or Pair?

I have a pretty active but sky male dwarf gourami and was just wondering if he’d be happier or less shy if I got a female for him to swim around with. Couldn’t find much information online. Thanks!

HI there.

It's doable, but with anabantids there's always a risk. They can get nasty. It depends on a few variables:

  • Tank size (Males establish territories)
  • Line of sight (They will need to be able to hide from each other)
You could give it a go, but he'll be fine on his own. Gonna tag david1978; he seems to be the labyrinth expert

Wow an expert, I feel special. Lol. Honestly I have never had female dwarf gouromi. I have seen many people have one or two with a male in a 3 foot tank. I haven't watched those tanks long enough however to really see how different they act vs by themselves.
