Silver Dollars With A Male Betta?

I got a tank almost 7 years ago, that had 2 silver dollars and a few others in it. All have passed but the two silver dollars making them at least 10. But they are showing no signs of ageing (do fish even "age"?). One of said acquired fish was a goldfish that I had to bury because he was too big to flush!

ANYWAY, I want to add some other fish. Its a 55ish gallon tall tank. with plenty of filtration, heat, plants and hideouts. Besides "Flapjack" and "Captain Shiny Sides" I have a female opaline gourami (Pearl) and a raphael catfish (Ralph).

Some sites so no to a male Betta some say its fine in a big enough tank. Now I get how a whole school of silver dollars could be too much for a betta but its just 2 old fish. I am thinking a male betta and a school of platy. Any opinions?

You could do a large group of Bolivian Rams, like 6 to 8 of them. 4 females and 2 males. Or 3 males 5 females.

You could probably get an opaline gourami male.
You could get a school of 15-20 rummy nose tetras and or rummy nose Rasbora.
Or a 15-20 school of Cardinal tetras.

Stocking N1:
15 Cardinal tetra
15 rummy nose tetra
6 Bolivian Rams "4f and 2m"
1 Opaline gourami
1 Raphael catfish, although I don't know too much about them.

Stocking N2:
8 Bolivian Rams
2 Opaline gourami "1m, 1f"
10 rummy nose tetra
10 Harlequin Rasbora
1 Raphael catfish

And I would say no to the silver dollars.... The get huge!

Before you get a GBR I would check to see if they are compatible with the rest of your stock, GBRs prefer warmer water, I do not have experience with SD

My tank is currently at 78 degrees or so. And they seems to do well and breed in that. They don't eat plants (weird) But seem happy. I picked up some giant danios last night. On sale and very healthy and pretty looking so we will see. I had never even heard of Rams before that post
