HI guys,
I was just wondering about when silver dollar fish get mature to breed.
I've purchased 5 Juveniles that are about 1.5 inches at the moment.
I was also wondering their growth rate. Example 1 year= 1.5 inches (EXAMPLE)
Thanks Guys!

I don't know how fast they grow, but it is affected by feeding frequency and quality, water change schedule, and tank size. What size tank do you have them in?

I believe there are different species with this name and their growth rates and final size may differ.

What species of silver dollars do you have? The tank may be too small for them.

You should add more loaches.

They are just the Norma silver Dollar and not the red hooks. And I am planning to transfer them to a 100 or a 125 gallon soon.

Can you list their species name or include a pic? There are a few different species called silver dollars.

There are at least 6-8 species that are common in the hobby, not counting Pacus, and dozens more species that are known. At least three of these are basically silver, and two have spots. Of the three that are silvery, size ranges from 6-8 inches max. The most common Spotted is M. lippincottianus, and is the smallest species, near 5 inches.

Most are going to have to reach 4-5 inches to be sexually mature, though the Spotted will breed just over 3 inches. Rate of growth is highly dependent on size of tank, diet, temperature, and water quality. In a 125, at 82F (28C), given lots of greens in their diet, and weekly water changes of 40% or better, I would expect fairly rapid growth, getting to 3 inches within 6-8 months. But that's still a rough guess.

IMG_3078.JPG Hello guys,
I believe that my silver dollars are Metynnis Argenteus. None of my silver dollars seem to have any spots of any sorts.

Please Note that the picture above is when they were first brought home. (And not their actual tank lol)
And they are a little bit bigger now

Indeed, they do appear to be argenteus. There was a local breeder in Grand Rapids, MI, who spawned these recently. I'm sure he will write an article for one of the clubs, he's a member of two local groups. Not sure how big his breeders were, but this species does get close to 6 inches.

Thanks! I'm sure to keep that in mind.
