Silicone and slate caves

Hey all,

I've done a bunch of reading about slate caves and have a question... almost everywhere I've seen, people say to use plain silicone, and several people have named Silicone I and/or Silicone II as their glue of choice.

Went to Home Depot last night to grab some and noticed that every single bottle & type they had said specifically "Do not use below water line or in aquariums".

Who do I listen to? People on the internet or the manufacturer?
I'm kind of thinking maybe the manufacturers put that on there because they also make the higher priced "aquarium" labeled silicone, but that's a complete guess with no basis in fact.

Any thoughts? Is a product that specifically says not to use it for aquariums okay?

I grabbed 2 small tubes of GE brand Silicone II, which says 100% silicone on the label, but thought I'd ask here for your opinions before using it.

Any silicone that says 100% silicone with no other ingredients is safe to use in aquariums. Just remember, 100% and nothing else!

that will work just make sure to let it dry and cure for at least 24 hours before you fill it to water test the tank

Ok thanks.

I just saw "do not use in aquariums" and got nervous, lol

And krazyone, this would be for sticking slate together for decor, not fixing a tank

I use a product called DAP that we bought from Home Depot. Has a picture of a little fish on the front of the tube and right under the fish it says "Aquarium Safe".

Its not with the other silicones. It is a smaller bottle, but I have used it for many things and still have some left. You will be surprised how far that little bottle goes. It should be around $4.
