I have a small male honey gourami whose body is swollen and pine coning. I hadn’t seen him in a few days and then he popped up like that.

I put him in a bucket (no extra tanks right now) with a heater and an air stone. I put salt in the water, and the next day (four days ago), his swelling had decreased. The day after that I put in some KanaPlex and repeated two days later, which was yesterday. He looks a lot better, but still not well.

I’ve never had a fish improve like this once I saw pine coning, so I’m hopeful that he’ll make it. But I don’t know what to do from here. Do I just keep giving him KanaPlex until he’s better? Is there a timeframe over which I should consider it a lost cause? Should I be doing water changes? Sorry for all the questions, but I’m not sure what to do from here.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Here’s the best pic I could get of him today, but it’s not a good one.

Make sure to do water changes, and look for treatment kits at your LFS. There are medication kits that are meant for different treatments and may be of more help. Good luck!
