my betta looks a bit sick, I just changed their tank to a 20G about 4 days ago, at the moment I'm doing a 25% water change I will continue doing this until the cycle is done, but I was away the last 4 days it was running so I did'nt do the water changes. Today I saw my Female crown betta sitting at the bottom a bit bent, as in she was sitting on her tail, curved? and when she came to swim up to the top it looked quite difficult for her, and she is swimming vertically. Plus my corydora has not been very active either she looks a bit lethargic? Is it new tank syndrome because I did not do those water changes for 4 days? PLEASE HELP!

Hi, sorry your fish aren't feeling well.

Let's start with the basics.

You had these fish in a different tank and recently moved them to the 20, yes?

When you moved the fish, did you move the filter and the substrate, or start over fresh?

What are your water parameters? Nitrates. Nitrites. Ammonia. pH? Tank temperature?

How do you do your water changes?

What water conditioner do you use?

Once we have a better idea of your setup, someone can talk you through.

Also, please list all the stock in your tank. 25% may not be sufficient to get your fish through a cycle but we need to know what the parameters and stock are first.

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, I had these fish in a 38G but the filter stopped working and it didn't seem to be heating up the way I would have liked it to.

I had to get a new filter to put in the 20G, and the old tank didn't have substrate but I added some to this one that had been previously used in another tank.

I don't know my water parameters yet but I can tell you tomorrow, the temperature is 78 degrees fahrenheit.

When I do my water changes I use a siphon to do a 25% water change.

I use prime water conditioner (and sometimes stress coat depending on the situation),

I have 1 bristle nose pleco, 2 rasbora tetras, 1 female betta and 1 corydora.

Why couldn't you keep them in the 38 any more? Did you put any of the old filter media into the new filter housing?

With a pleco in the tank I would be doing minimum 50% water changes daily in an uncycled tank.
