HI I currently have 5 small goldfish (3-4 inch) in a 180 gallon tank. They have been in the tank for 2 weeks now. They are happily swimming around and exploring when the tank lights are off and when the room lights are on but as soon as I turn on the tank lights they quickly hide. I have tried turning on the room lights for 10 minutes before turning the tank lights on so that they don't get freaked out by the sudden change of lighting but they still hide. The only time they come out while the tank lights are on is during feeding time but go back into hiding after eating.
My light fixture uses 6 T5 bulbs rated at 54 watts each (324 watts total) and is suspended about 6 inches from the water surface (height of tank is 28 inches). Are my fish just shy around bright lights and need more time to acclimate or are my lights too bright for them?
