Shy Betta Normal?

Hey all,
I just got my black delta betta last night and acclimated him to a 6.5 gallon tank that was cycled. What I was wondering is it normal for bettas to be shy when first introduced to a new home? He hides in his cave and doesn't want to come out except for brief moments of hiding behind one of the amazon swords. He was the healthiest looking one at Petco and I just want to make sure its not cause maybe hes actually sick. I would show a picture but well you can't see him LOL.

Yes, some of mine will hide and act skittish when I walk near the tank, it will take a bit for them to acclimate to their new environment.

They don’t always eat right away either, and that is perfectly normal as well, just give them some time and then they will be acting completely normal in no time.
My bettas didn’t eat for nearly a week after getting them, some were quicker than others,

Thankyou Fanatic...I've waited so long to get my little guy and i'm just being a panicky mom probably. I'll keep an eye on him and post a pic when he decides to make an appearance. Thanks for any help and advice on my little man. Hes my first betta.

I drove myself insane over one of mine not eating, and I was considering bringing him back to the store so he wouldn’t die of starvation, but he ended up eating just fine.

As long as your tank is cycled, the water temperature and parameters are right, then he will be fine.
