Shubunkin constantly pooping white stringy trail

Hi all,

For the past week my Shubunkin is constantly (several times a day) pooping a white stringy trail that hangs around.

- Fully cycled tank. Water params (ammonia) have been checked to be zero (using the liquid test kit).
- PH 7.5 / De-chlorinated tap water (UK) using Prime.
- There is diatom (brown algae) issue in the tank.
- Temprature of the water is 18 degrees Celsius.
- Food is the Tetra sticks, and peas sometimes once a day.

My understanding is two things; parasite/bacterial infection or stress.

His behaviour has become less active than before, but I am not seeing any other symptoms of disease; The other fish has also become less active in the same period.

Here is a video:

Any ideas? I' a bit baffled.

Hi, and welcome to Fishlore! :D I may not be able to contribute much, but its been 17 minutes since you posted this and nobody seems to have answered so I guess I'll say something than not to say something at all.

I'm positive that your fish has internal parasites and you definitely want to quarantine your fish and look into some medications for that specific parasite. Also the obvious would be not to feed him/her at this time. In the meanwhile, you can be waiting for more experienced responses. I just tried to help the best I can...

Thanks - Are parasites common in fish kept indoors? I always thought it was unlikely.

I'm not entirely sure on how to answer that question, but the best remedy for fish like mattgirl likes to say is fresh clean water.

the orange/white one is a common goldfish. the other one does not appear to be shubunkin either, due to the lack of blue nacreous scales, and reds.

what size tank?

how often are water changes and what % is changed?

you said ammonia is zero, but what about nitrite and nitrate?

how long have you had the fish?

what is the water source? city tap water, well water, etc?

new goldfish have a high chance of having parasites, since most of them are bred and raised in outdoor ponds. if you had yours for years, and have not added any new fish, plants or anything, then it could be contaminated water such as heavy rains causing flooding at the water department.
