I would recommend you up the temp to 78 to keep him healthy. Otherwise, he may become lethargic which could lead to shortened life span and even death.

My betta has been thriving and having vibrant colors for several months now, in those little creeks, it isn’t actually that hot because of the shade in the water. And I have Corydoras palateus with them who are moving to the 40 breeder

The paddies and rivers are actually pretty sunny. If you look at a picture of a rice paddy (where bettas are from) then you will see that the rice doesn't take up much room and it is rather sunny. This gives the bettas the option to move to cooler waters, but they prefer the warmer spots over the cooler spots.
