Hey guys I've had my 4 animo shrimp for just over a month now and they've shredded twice already I'm just wonder if this is normal?

In my experience they molt more often when they're getting used to the tank, at least mine did. They also molt more when they're young or stressed. Normal molting should be once every few weeks.

Yes its normal. The smaller the shrimp is the more often they will molt

They're shredding weekly ATM.

So the shrimp I was previously talking about are all dead due to Bruce my Betta eatting them. I know have four shrimp in with a my other Betta sharkco but he's basically chasing them round most the day. Could this be cause of them shredding so much? My tap nitrates are high but I'm treating it with matrix

I don't think so. Bettas are iffy when it comes to tank mates. They just don't like the shrimp. Mine always killed shrimp I put with it. I had success with snails tho.

A lot depends on the temperament of the betta. Your betta might just not like them.

When they've freshly molted, they should be hiding, however, because their shells haven't hardened yet.

I've had a success with snails with two tanks so far and in my third tank my Betta is bullying the snails I don't think he should be housed with anyone. His abit of a bully.
But sharkco the one who's in with the shrimp is okay with the snail but not keen on one of the shrimps.

When you said shredded in your OP, I was thinking of the shrimp doing skateboarding.

As others have said, different fish may have different temperaments. Now that you know that betta is hostile to shrimp, just don't put more in there unless you wanted to feed him.

Yeah I won't be don't worry about that I feel so sorry for the shrimp I don't have a spate tank to home them so I suppose they're slowly going to be eatten as sharkco is alittle to small to eat them ATM.

I have kept shrimp in the breeder's net temporarily while another tank was being prepared for them. That keeps them from harm's way in case some fish would pester or eat them.

You can also make a temporary one with a 1 or 2 L soda bottle (or smaller water bottle) that has some holes in it to take in water. The shrimp can hang out in there for a bit. The bottle can be placed horizontally or vertically as long as the shrimp don't have a way to get out.

Thanks so much. I wish I could re home them. Such a shame to watch them die slowly. I will try the water bottle thing I think I know what your talking about.

Would they be able to live in a 2.4l plastic tank? With an air pump. I think that might be a stupid question/ but I'm kinda running out of options unless I want them to be tonight dinner for sharkco.

Just two of them? I would think that would be fine. I doubt they will reproduce.

I've have four.. I don't want them to have babies! Gosh that's the last thing I want.. I just want to keep them alive will they be okay with out a heater?

If your water stays in the 70s you shouldn't need a heater. I would put live plants in there as well to help with the waste

I have a heater but I don't think the will be okay in a plastic tank. I would only use this tank for when I'm cleaning or salt baths etc.

You wanna use it as a holding tank for your bettas now? As long as they don't sit in there a really long time I would think they would be fine

Ok sorry the one post confused me. But if you can get some plants to grow in there you shouldn't need a filter. Shrimp have a small bio load. So you would just need to change some water weekly.

They're with the Betta I can't remove them from the tank due to were they're hiding. The Betta can't get to them either.

They should be fine. Do they come down at night?( any clean spots around the tank in the morning?)

I have two snails in there so they clean most the algae. I've been feeding them through the little gap behind the filter and I can see them eatting. But also when I was feeding my Betta squeezed behind the filter and got tramped thank god I was there to quickly get him out. I've been finding molts around the tank though. So they must be coming out from time to time.

Yeah I would say they just feel safe back there. You could try adding more plants or something your betta can't fit in.

His still quite small himself so he manages to get into pretty much anything but I'll add more plants what ones would you suggest?

Hi. I just tried to send a thread, but have no idea if it went through. I have a 60 gallon tank. Its filled with guppies, danios, tetras, tiger barbs, platies, female bettas, and an albino bristle nose pleco. I want to get some invertabrates. Is there any common, cheap invertabrate that is colorful, yet is big enough not to be eaten, and won't bother my other fish?

Also, I was told I need at least 5 gallons per betta (This is for my males. Right now, they are in isolation tanks in the 60.). Is that true or not? With my previous bettas, I have never tried to put shrimp in their tanks. I have found they like pond snails as snacks, and that they won't bother corydoras if the corydoras has been in the tank longer, and if that's not the case, showing another betta makes the male disracted, and in a day, the corydoras is ignored. I now know corydoras are supposed to school, but mine seemed happy. Right now, I am using the 10 gallon sick tank to house one of my oldest bettas (2 years), and he does not bother the 2 chinese algae eaters, or the albino corydoras. Does anyone know how much algae the chinese algae eaters need to eat to make sure they don't turn on their fellow tank mates? Sorry 'bout changing the topic.

Ok so snails would be the only thing that wouldn't get eaten in the 60. Most people day 5 min for a betta. I agree. And algae eaters Idk how much to feed to keep them from attacking other fish. Never had one not go after other fish.

All four shrimp are still alive, and living in there 2.4L tank. The tank hasn't cycled but I'm using water from my other tanks. Sadly I can't find a heater that's small enough to fit in or long enough to reach my plug socket. But there survive with cold water ATM. I don't know the exact temperature in there but it feels cold. Any suggestions on helping these guys?

Sounds like your doing good. I believe their minimum temp is 68. So just make sure your above that.

I don't have a spare thermometer, but I believe it could be colder then that. It's very cold to touch, but they're active.
