Shrimp shedding exoskeleton: can this cause a scant amount of ammonia?

I recently added six Amano shrimp to my tank. I found what I believe to be an exoskeleton that was shed by one of the shrimp. Sometimes these little buggers are hard to count, but I believe I counted all six of them alive.

I pulled this thing out as soon as I found it, and it appears to be all exoskeleton. Could this hanging around in the tank cause a scant amount of ammonia? I was out of town over the weekend, so it could have been in there for a few days.

You need to leave those in the tank. The shrimp consume them and it aids in hardening up their new exoskeleton.

They will not create an ammonia reading in your tank.

Good morning,

If I remember correctly, you can leave the molting/exoskeleton in the tank and the shrimp will eat it. I believe it has some vitamins that are beneficial to shrimp once it has been eaten.

Let's get more responses to be sure. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Just leave the exoskeleton in the tank, it provides calcium for them to molt again.

Hmmm. The ammonia reading was so slight as to be virtually indistinguishable from the bright yellow "0" color, but I've done this test enough to know that however scant, it was there.

I'm doing a big WC tonight, so that should help.
