I've heard of a few people losing shrimp as fish snacks. I would like to have a few shrimp in my school fish tank with the guppies, but I'd rather if they don't get eaten. Are guppies and shrimp a good combo? Should I try something else?

Yes, guppies and shrimp are a great combination! You may rarely have the occasional baby shrimp get eaten by a guppy. But in general they should live in harmony.

Awesome, thank you! I was looking to add a little variety since my loach is definitely too big to return to the smaller tank I have at school after march break

Guppies by nature eat they own young and if they get the liking for baby shrimp they will eat them if theres little cover, the only safe shrimp I believe would be an Ammano they are big enough to hold their own, as stated by @Deku-Cory there are lots that keep them with guppies and they are probably the safest fish but be prepared for casualties
