Shrimp Or Nerites?

I have a 20 gal with 6 platies, 6 cories, a dwarf gourami, and 2 mystery snails. I have noticed that I have algae growing on the glass, and I would like to take care of it before it gets out of hand. I was wondering if it would be safe to add some shrimp or nerites to my current set up, or if I should think of something else to help with algae?

If the algae is excessive, you might have some sort of imbalance with your light and nutrient levels that you should try to fix.

If it's just standard issue algae that comes with healthy tanks, nerites all the way! Your DG might try to go after shrimp.

At the end of the day, nothing will be more effective than cleaning your glass yourself though. Nerites are pretty thorough but they won't get everything. Also, nerites may lay little white eggs all over the tank. Its not harmful at all; you can leave them and they'll go away on their own but some people find that unsightly and avoid nerites because of that. They're easy enough to scrape off surfaces if they do bother you.

nerites are definitely a great invert to have if you have algae and are less likely to be eaten then the shrimp
