I have a 28litre (7gallon) tank with 1betta, 1 banana Lilly, 1 giant ambulia (spread out), some java moss, 2 very small cuttings of elodea, a few snails (Malaysian trumpets, ramshorn and another few small ones). I also had 10 ghost shrimp and 15cherry red shrimp but 1 cherry and 1 ghost died with another ghost not looking too good (he has been white for 3 days now). I do regular water changes and gravel siphons every 4-7 days. recently I've had 2 shrimp die, as mentioned above and just found a strange critter in the tank which gives me bad vibes. I've made a makeshift quarantine for now as I don't have a smaller tank I could use.

I haven't had much experience with shrimp and was wondering if any of you guys could help me figure out what's been going wrong?

The strange critter you found looks to be a damselfly nymph, still not 100% sure. They can hunt and eat shrimp if they're big enough, but I'm not certain that's what's causing your shrimps to die. It would be best to remove them from the tank.

I just googled the damselfly nymph and I think you are correct. It looks exactly like what I found, except the matured version. What should I do with it?
I don't have a backup tank that they could go in at the moment. Do you think doing a water change would be beneficial?

Besides the unknown invader. We need to know what your water chemistry is, how long your tank has been cycled and how long after the cycle did you exit to introduce your shrimp.

Cherry shrimp are easy to keep but really require a very mature and stable tank, they also need to be acclimated to the new tank. Very slowly. So, if you can get your water chemistry posted we might be able to help figure out why your shrimpers not doing well.

So I tested my water today and I have a pH of 7.2-7.6, no nitrate, no nitrite but a little bit of ammonia sitting somewhere between 0-0.25. my water temp is 25 degrees Celsius as well.

I'm wondering if my constant cleaning has disrupted my cycle? I saw that I have a preg cherry this morning so I really want things to work out for her and even brought a little bag to go over the filter so the shrimplets don't get sucked up!

It is s damselfly nymph and needs to be removed and put it in a pond lake, river to finish his moulting and fly, it will kill your shrimp, it's best to have a good look in the tank as its possible thers more
