Is it a bamboo shrimp? I can't think of any other readily available shrimp, here in the states atleast, that are large enough to bother the neon tetras.

That is a link to a bamboo shrimp pic, do you have something different? If so could you post a picture?

Don't bamboo shrimp just filter water though, they get big but I thought they were pretty much filter feeders and harmless?

And ya that baffles me too, as I have never had any shrimp ghost, amano, cherries crs etc that would take out a neon, I have had them eat dead ones though. If they died of natural causes they would eat them up real fast, but I can't imagine them killing one.

Yeah, bamboo are not algae eatters, but some stores misname the fish and inverts they sell. So I figured she may have bought it as an algae shrimp but it really be something else. Bamboo just because it is the easiest larger shrimp to get that could take out a neon...

Big they are but they are completely harmless.

These shrimp should never be housed with fish that could hurt it, such as most cichlids, even if the fish is smaller than the shrimp or the same size. The Asian Filter Shrimp (bambo) itself is totally harmless and is not even capable of hurting the smallest fry or other, smaller shrimp. Thus, it can be housed with all dwarf shrimp, regardless of size.
