You're using kanaplex alone, correct?

Maracyn 1 & 2 are the next course of action.

Is he living inside the M Blue tank or are you doing baths?
Kanaplex is all I could find. I’ll have to hit the city but when o checked their websites the didn’t have anything. Might have to start making phone calls.

He’s living in the M blue, yes. (HA! Drained the water into my tub by accident and now I have blue spots on the tub)

Ah yes, the dreaded blue tub, cousin of blue sink and blue toilet.

Feeding food with API General Cure might be a good idea. Or feeding Kana + Metro + Focus might also help, since in theory this is an internal problem - although... Kanaplex is absorbed very well, but maybe this will make a difference?
Petland has all of this.
MrPets has metroplex

Don't know if you have those stores in Manitoba though.

Unfortunately I don't know how long to wait when switching antibiotics, or if waiting is even required. I would google this.

Oh no! I was hoping he was doing even better when I hit this notification. Poor little guy looks pretty bad. Wonder how it came back so fast? Still hoping for the best.

I can never remember which Pet-Blank we have. I think it’s PetLand and PetSmart but not positive. I’ll look for those other meds you suggested.

I know!! Ugh! Sure I was a few hours late with the water change and he didn’t eat all his food but is it THAT picky?!

Hey y’all.
Look at his face for me. Is it looking blotchy red?

When you walk into Pet-Blank, are there rodents & birds in the very front of the store in open enclosures you can go to and pet? If yes, that's petland. No, petsmart. If there are almost no rodents at all, that is MrPets.

Yes. Very blotchy red. Has the normal white veined all throughout it.

Aww, sorry to hear this. I was expecting better news. I’m truly perplexed. I can only hope he gets better.

Yes it does, and that’s a good way to describe it. Not trying to be funny, but it’s like he’s been in a boxing match. “Blotchy red” sounds like a good description.

Sorry for the delay. Had to wake my vet and get his mind working.
I don’t know if you have access to a vet willing to treat a fish. He really thought Jupe was getting better.
I asked him what we used when one of my comets got septicemia from a neighbor injuring him with a stick. I hope SirI gets this right. He injected ceftazidine into his dorsal muscle. He’s really concerned that Jupe is getting blotchy. Me too. Using things to keep him more comfortable like salt. Not much. You could swab his fins with the mblue. You’ve done the antibiotics. There’s only so much his little kidneys and liver can take.
As tunafax said general cure may help. As the person actually watching this baby and knowing his normal behavior, do you believe he’s strong enough for a round of general cure? It helped my guppy when nothing else would. At this point just about anything is risky. But ten is still young. What do you think he can endure?

He’s still active and moving so I think he’s still got fight left in him. The M blue mentions doing a bath.

The leading ray on his pectoral fin has snapped and is turning black. How
Much do they feel if I were to take scissors to his fin and trim it back.

If there is necrosis, I would imagine trimming is the proper course of action. I've never done this tho so don't quote me on this.

I’m kinda leaning toward that. Gonna see if I can track down a vet in the city that will deal with fish and if I can’t find one, start looking at doing it myself.

Get the general cure.
I’m thinking if the general cure doesn’t help and you can’t find a fish vet, then it’s up to Jupe’s will to continue the fight. Stress is so very hard on all living beings. There’s only so much his kidneys can take. General cure is fairly gentle. I was hoping he would get a lot better before using it. But, for whatever reason, he started getting worse again. Do the general cure.
I’m holding you both in my heart. Don’t give up. Give him a loving pep talk.

You know what? I think I’d do the general cure after a PWC. Don’t use the mblue until after the course of the general cure. Give his little body a break. He’s been through so much. I’m heartbroken this is going too far. Let me know how he reacts to the general cure? Hang on dear Jupe, hang on.

NOTHING! They have NOTHING! My word chain stores are useless. Bettafix and melefix was literally all the one place carried. Gonna have to look another day.

Any chance of finding a vet? It’s hard anymore. My vet has semi-retired. Just does enough hours to keep his license. He’s from the day the vet treated every pet that came in. From spiders to eagles. Today’s Vets, at least around here, will only treat what they want to. The one that bought my Vets practice won’t even treat Rotties or pits muchless fish!

Not yet. It’s hard taking good pictures of an active fish in blue water when his fins are al sorts of funny colours. His fins are chunky? Looks like there’s excess slime coat in some spots.

Ate like a champ tonight. He’s getting active, ugh. Might have to go find another tote... kinda given up if he’s getting red or not because one day he does, then he looks less red, then he looks red again. I think it’s the M Blue and cruddy room lights. Fins are still shredded.

Eating and being more active is good. And fins take a long time when it’s as bad as Jupe’s. Some may never come back. But hopefully enough for him to swim and be happy. Thank you for the update. Vet?

His tail is actually one of the best looking chunk of fin he has. It’s the only one that isn’t shredded.

Nothing yet. He active and eating though, definitely getting better. If I don’t hear back from the vet I think I’m gonna let him detox for a week or two and if needed to another round of kanaplex. It defiantly helped.

Good idea. You may need a bigger qt if he gets much better. WHEN he gets much better! No backsliding Jupe! Keep us posted. I’ll pester you if you don’t. Lol.
