I visited another lfs in the area I've never been too before. Normally I go to the other one, but road construction makes it annoying to get in and out.

I ended up randomly buying some adler cones. After replacing the indian almond leaf in my tank and adding a few cones, this morning I have this. I love it. It's a little darker in person.

Alder cones do get darker than IAL. for sure.

I would actually love to try a backwater tank but my water is too hard. My betta is more relaxed when the water is stained with tannins.

You can use Peat Moss in your filter to lower the pH. Plus you can do a faux blackwater where the parameters don’t have to be the same as a real blackwater system.

There is no softening Great Lakes water besides cutting RO water ......tried everything. ;)

I use to run a HOB and added peat to it. It dropped my pH from 8.4 to 8.2. Seachem acid buffer works for a day, IAL drops it to 8.2. As Star Girl says, nothing softens Great Lakes water.

I could run with tannin stained water though.

HI all

I'm sure there is a place for this, however I couldn't find it. I would love to see pictures of all of your tanks, looking for ideas to remodel mine and include more real plants! Please share yours below

FrogLegged

Went to Petco today and got a floating moss ball to make a bit more shade for the 2 new Amano shrimp in here. Been having a little Blackbeard algae and green algae on the walls, but that's it. Really hoping the Blackbeard algae goes down with this Tetra Algae Control I've been using, seems to work on the green algae. Now just a matter of weekly water changes and some algae maintenance :)

Suspend a tomato plants roots above the tank,it will stave off that black beard algae quickly.
What's the little glass orb thing in the top left of the tank??? I dont know what it is....but now I need one hahaha.

40breeder update. It's a jungle in there.
Going to do a massive trim soon. 50g tall is doing great as well. Gandalf the angelfish likes to show off for the camera. He's all ready grown about 1/2" to 1" from when i got him. When i trim the tanks I'll probably be selling some on the bstf section. Also thought I'd share something i haven't yet. This is my 55g turtle tank currently housing my north American painted turtle. I know it's not fish but it's in a tank....lol his name is turtle petty in honor of Tom Petty. We got him the day tom petty passed away from a family member who couldn't take care of him anymore.

Well, just trimmed the 40 breeder. Can't wait for it to grow in again so i can fill in more space. Might add more shrimp as the current shrimp inhabitants are swimming right passed all the other fish and have not been eaten. Thinking of adding some blue dream shrimp and possibly an amano or bamboo.
Going to have to trim the 50 soon as well. The Italian vals are going nuts, the wisteria i got from vishaquatics is doing great as well as the ludwigia rubin from both tanks. I also have what i suspect is guppy grass growing as well.

That's a beautiful tank setup! What kind of wood is that? I also wanted to create a tree in my tank like that but all those woods are too rough for my betta which sucks

JLAquatics

I recently trimmed the 10 gallon with a big overhaul the other day. Also got a school of Ember Tetras and some Amano shrimp to add to the ever changing scape. Enjoy. :)

Thank you! I found this spider wood at my lfs, unfortunately it was not cheap but absolutely worth it as gandalf the angel and azog the bn pleco both benefit from it with the many hiding places and the many spots for the pleco to rasp on
You could try manzanita wood? The piece i have in my 40 breeder is fairly smooth. You can also dull down any sharp edges. I also recommend using cholla wood and moss to create trees with. You can find some decent size pieces to create tall or short trees with moss or anubias etc.

Haven't posted anything on the forum in quite a bit.
Here's the 40 breeder and 50 hex corner. 50 looks like a jungle, the bolivians unfortunately did not survive but everything else is doing well. 40 has a big shrimp boom but i lost one honey gourami. Going to rescape both soon. Probably going to ask for ideas in a new thread.

Here’s a picture of my current project. The tank on the bottom arrived today, a 250L rimless. It will be converted into a sump.

Is that the fluval flex 15g? What's the flow like for your betta?

Thanks :) I don't have it in there anymore unfortunately. It started to get quite dull and discoloured after 10 years in use, so I'm now fully plants/wood/rocks. I took a look at the new version of the tardis, but it's much more cartoony than the one I had :(

Strider1520

Here’s where mine (36g Bowfront) is at now. Man, I guess I should do some trimming. 3 months in. A lot different from 3 months ago when it was colorful coral ornaments and plastic plants that the fish couldn’t swim through.

FishDin

Here's a pic of my loaches hanging out in their new tank soon after it was set up about 2 years ago. I probably introduced them to the tank too soon. The tank looks too clean for them. No gunk growing for them to graze through. I feed them Repashy gel, which I assume got them through the clean, lean times... I've recently started using Bacter AE to enhance the bio film for them.

This unheated tank also houses Rams Horn snails and White Mountain minnows.

I made this tank out of a broken Exo Terra enclosure. The frame was intact so I removed all the glass and silicone and had new glass cut which allowed me to make a deeper water section. I built a dripwall and planted it with vines, mosses, ferns, orchids etc. The pump draws water through a sponge filter in the tank and pumps half of it back into the tank and the other half to the top of the wall where it trickles down through the plant roots and back to the tank. Tank volume is 10 gal. I do 50% WC weekly. Ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are 0/0/0/

The 2nd photo is of when I was installing the first plants. The dripwall plumbing is visible at the top, sponge filter bottom right. The pump is housed in a bump-out on the left. After plants were installed I applied moss slurry to the entire wall.

The third photo is awhile later. More plants have been planted and everything is filling in. Overall I'm very happy with this tank. Like most of my tanks, it's a work in progress. The main thing it's lacking is flowering plants. 3 of the 4 orchids have died. One flowered once before dying. One vine flowered before dying. Also, after a year, the Sicce pump housing cracked and it lost most if it's presure and wasn't pumping to the top of the wall. I lost some plants before I noticed what was happening. A new pump and 2 months later all is good again. Sicce wouldn't honor their 5 year guaranty, but I bought anotherone because the tank plumbing was already set up for that pump layout.
