Ok, so I have been breeding my rice fish recently and I'm trying to streamline my process/improve my survival rate. . . one of the issues I'm running into is housing new fry. . . typically I hatch eggs in a hang on breeder box, after hatching I move them to a separate species only tank to grow them out. . . at first this was fine, but now I have fry/juveniles that are big enough to eat newly hatched fry . . . should I just get more breeder boxes. . . or make a crazy elaborate fry rack. . .

Show me how you raise your fry!!!

Ziss breeder box. I‘ve never done this, but you can link them together.

I have been looking at those, my only dislike is they attach to the side/the glass, which means i couldn't do my weakly 50% water changes without reverse drowning the fish.
I was doing water changes every 2 - 3 days when it was in the tank.

Remove some water, slide the breeder box down and remove some more water. Same thing in reverse to fill. Actually easier than it might sound.

I use 4’ long 40 gallons for my egg scatters.

The tank is divided by a matten filter like divider 1/4-3/4.

the 1/4 side is filled half way up with leaves, and the matten has a small number of grooves cut in the bottom underneath a mop.

fish lay eggs in/near the mop, eggs fall to the bottom and get sucked into the 1/4 side of the tank away from all the mouths.

this works for 3 spawning cycles, 27-33 days.

after the 3rd cycle, the big babies are large enough to eat all the eggs/fry.

move the breeders to the next tank and repeat.

yeah but still not sure I want to be doing that for 7 tanks, especially if I'm draining and filling tanks at the same time.

I was think about dividing up a tank, matten filter is probably a great way to do it. Where do you get your foam?

I got my matten from Swiss Tropical .
Welcome to SwissTropicals - SWISSTROPICALS
Steven is a good guy .
You will not be able to automatically change water on most fry tanks .
Even syphoning will difficult as the fry [most] have no fear and will go right out with the bad water .
The sponge allows you to draw water from the side without the fry ..

Only fry i currently have are peacock gudgeon fry. Just have them in a seperate 10 gal, set up pretty much like my other tanks with places to hide. I do use a fairly small, slow vac for water changes so i have a better chance of freeing any fry before the go up the tube...otherwise nothing special.
