Should I Upgrade My 5.5 To A 10?

I'm stuck on whether I should upgrade him to a 10 gallon. I was planning on getting another 5.5 for another betta in the future, but my dresser won't be able to handle the weight of a 5.5 and a 10, just two 5.5's or one 10. He just looks so big in there! If anyone else owns a 10 gallon is the maintenance more difficult?

He's up at the top right corner. Excuse the algae. :yuck:

10gal is the way to go, far easier IMO. Same water change schedule though, weekly water changes. He will appreciate the extra room too. Both my males have their own 10gal, you can add kuhlI loaches and nerite/mystery snails in there and it will be a nice little community. So far I have yet to have a betta go after a bottom feeder.

I moved my betta from a 3 to a 10. I thought maintaining the ten was easier.

10s are nice. But I would rather have 2 tanks. Remember there is way more you can do with a 5 than a Betta as well.

But MTS (multiple tank syndrome) is my biggest struggle.

A 10 gallon isn't anymore difficult if not easier. You could always get a divider and another male if you think your boy would be ok with it. Maybe even use the 5.5g as a temporary qt for the new betta. I wouldn't recommend any other fish besides a divided betta tank as they really need a 20 gallon long for a community. Kuhlis also need a 20 long minimum.

I bought it! Now time to move everything over... I don't think I'm going to divide it since I wanted to give him more swimming space. I was going to get two bettas if I had 2 5.5's but now I think I'm sticking with one.

Thank you everyone for helping! The only tank mate I'd give him is a snail.

I'm sure you could always find somewhere else to put the 5.5 I mean, you can't just let it go to waste, right?

Woo done! I honestly don't think I'm cut out for aquascaping but tried it anyway. He loves the room! I need to finish the background.

That looks great! Way better than my aquascapes, I just toss things together and hope they look good!

I'd buy the 10 with a divider -- maybe you could keep two betas in there and keep the 5 gallon as a hospital tank.
