Should I put something in between the stand and tank?

I would always recommend putting something in between metal and an aquarium, but that’s just me. Metal has no give whatsoever, and it’s slick. A foam mat or a board underneath would probably be what I would go for. It’s cheap and the peace of mind is worth it imo.

Yes, that looks like a good candidate for a leveling mat. It will add a buffer to imperfections like that.

You already have something between the tank and stand: The plastic frame AROUND the tank bottom. Ive never put anything EXTRA between the 2 unless its a rimless tank. Then I use a sheet of insulation foam. But in your case, you have nothing to worry about, in my opinion.

We use polystyrene (styrofoam) under the tanks.
