Should I go to the fish store today?

We have a very cool LFS about 30 minutes away. The owner takes covid precautions very seriously. (Good on him, I'm not complaining. Far too few people take it seriously enough). But this means he's limited capacity to 1/3rd of the capacity the health dept would allow. You need to call from outside to be put on a list and wait in line. I have 2 hours before id have to leave to get there around when they open, and I stil might have to wait for up to an hour depending how busy it is.

I really can't decide if I want to put that much effort in today lol. What say you people of fishlore?

I say yes. Go do something fun for yourself today. We all need “me” days to do something we want to do. If you’re ask, you want to do.

I was contemplating the same thing, except my stores are not 30 min away. Go for it, and make the whole trip fun. With your favorite music on the road and maybe a book while waiting in your car could make the whole thing quality time.

I went to a Petco yesterday to purchase a filter that was on sale. The store was limited to 38 people due to COVID regulations, but there might have been 20 including staff. While there, I picked up a couple of fish foods. I looked at the fish, but there were several tanks "under observation" and I saw a dead fish in another tank, so that changed any plans I might have had for purchasing livestock. I have three Petco stores within about 5 miles, but this one is the closest. Unfortunately, it is the one whose tanks are normally in questionable condition.

Go have some fun! I stopped at my local fish store on Friday. Luckily, I was in and out pretty fast even though it was very busy. Mine also has covid precautions in place, capacity limits, strict mask policy, and curbside pick-up available.

Yes please. Just be sure to wear your mask. I went yesterday and if you go early, you should be able to avoid the crowds.

Is it nice out? Could you wait outside your car? Can you pick me up on the way? Baltimore.

Sure, just get yourself as far as foxboro MA and I'll pick you up as I pass through and get you the rest of the way!

I voted yes! Sounds like the store is taking precautions, they probably would appreciate the business and who knows, things may shut down again so go when you have the chance,

Yes, of course! Mask up, do your very best to distance and enjoy some time watching your finned friends (who are fortunate enough not to need masks!) Hand sanitize when you get in the car, and handwash when you get home and all should be well. Enjoy!!

Yeah do it while you can. The world is an unpredictable place you never know if they might go out of business or if we go back into lockdown.these days I try and do anything I can to support local businesses

That's a fact! Plus yesterday was Small Business Saturday, so you're giving them a belated boost. Every small business needs our help right now (and that includes the locally-owned franchises of the larger chains).

You didn't say the most important piece of info - what do you need there? If it's not fish, maybe you can just order online. Maybe that exact store has online shop? Personally I hate lines and would try to avoid it unless really really inevitable.

Ours is the same. Now that it is getting colder they are texting you from your car when Its your turn. They did the stay outside thing all summer too.

Sadly, i usually only see one maybe 2 other people at any of our LFSs when i go...probably has to do with the fact i usually get there shortly after they open on saturdays...

I always think we don't have many fishkeepers here in town...but we must have enough to keep 2 different LFSs in business while having 2 each of Petco and Petsmart in town...they just don't show themselves while i am on the prowl!

I'm always surprised too. This place is extra busy because they have all the cool freshwater stuff you see online. Huge selection of less commonly seen fish.

Baltimore to Massachusetts is probably quite the drive, but it's called uncle ned's fish factory.

Oh. I missed that you were in Mass. I used to live in Boston but there are no decent stores up there.

Just look at their stock (on line). I'm amazed you didn't get the apisto borelli and zebra loaches.

Not sure how often they update their website, but I saw the borelli a couple weeks ago and was going to grab a pair for my 10 gallon today actually. But they'd sold out.

As for fish stores, I can't speak for the city area as I'm down in Mansfield. But the south coast has some decent stores now. Good stores in foxboro, millis, Framingham, Kingston. If you like goldfish, Goldfish Island's brick and mortar store is in Quincy and well worth a visit. Ken's fish food in taunton. Haven't been yet but heard of some good places in fall river and new bedford too. Took me awhile to learn the places and they're pretty spread out, but they exist.

Respect to the store owner. I stopped going to one of the stores here since the owner is the exact opposite and just sticks to the bare minimum of rules (which in comparison to the US may well be quite extensive though), and is very lax on many rules as long as the customers don't complain. Guess who complained and doesn't get discounts anymore...

To the question: Shopping tank supplies in such conditions would be worth doing it in my opinion. Last time I was out for this was 6 weeks ago. If it's not too late yet: Go, do it.

When i lived in Boston i didn't have a car so i was limited to public transporation for anything further than 5 miles (less than 5 miles i could use leg 1 and leg 2). I suppose i could have used uber duber. Kind of glad I left before the panademic. Would have been a nightmare to depend on public transportation right now.

Yeah, i kind of wonder about that with the people i see that use the busses regularly here. I often see plenty of people at the bus stop out front of our house so i know the bus system is still used.

It is... Usually I like the excellent connections we have here and the high quality of the vehicles and the really good schedules.
But...right now... it's just plain scary. On thursday I took the bus for the first time in weeks. Had a jobinterview.
Now FYI: Not wearing the masks correctly on PT costs 150€, zero tolerance policy.
Guess a lot of people still seem to have too much money.

Really glad I don't have to rely on PT either. That would be scary right now.

MacZ did you get the job?

We have a mask mandate in my town, haven't heard of fines yet. I tend to pay more attention to my mask to make sure it is situated properly to pay much attention to others, unless i am stuck in a place like the laundromat for awhile. Then i just walk up to people without masks, take mine off, start coughing then comment about testing positive that day.

MacZ did you get the job?

Na, they didn't actually have one. My trade is basically dead right now. While private language schools have reacted fast to make lessons online possible, now the clients don't want to book the courses ignoring the fact that we offer that extra service. They all want face-to-face, which is basically not allowed right now in adult education. So I was only invited so they have one more teacher to call as soon as classes are booked again. Edit: I'm freelancing, so I jump from one small job (e.g. 20x 45min of lessons) to the other since late October. Hence my infrequent and "necessities only" LFS visits.

Then i just walk up to people without masks, take mine off, start coughing then comment about testing positive that day.

They made that a felony costing up to several hundred euros here. Mandatory isolation for all positive cases and all with results pending, you get fined very high sums for breaking quarantine or isolation here. People have done basically the same and others called the cops understanding it as a threat.
But thanks for making sure you wear one and that it fits correctly.

And maybe we should leave the topic now, usually somebody goes political and the whole thread is done for.
