Should I get GH Booster?

I have very low KH here which has caused me some issues in the past. I've purchased KH Booster by Nutrafin to fix my tanks quickly while also adding in things such as limestone for long-term stability. My GH is also low. Should I also get the GH Booster? Is that as important?

You should just tag me! lol. I've been really busy and didn't even see this.

What is your GH now with the limestone?

What is your KH now with the KH booster?

What fish are you keeping? Rule of thumb is to keep the GH as high as the hardest water requiring fish you have. Even softwater fish need minerals of around 75ppm.

I didn't want to bug you

OK, GH and KH before a 25% water change and addition of KH Booster were 3 drops each.

After adding the Booster my KH was 5 drops. I assume that plants in the tank are using it up because I add it every morning with the water changes. I normally do 50% changes but this morning the ammonia wasn't as high.

This is my QT, it's a 25 gallon but only filled to ~20 and contains a large Angel and a small BN Pleco.

3 is a bit soft for the angel, ideally it would be closer to 5. I didn't think Nutrafin made a GH booster? I'm very happy with Seachem Replenish which is a GH booster. Its easy to use because its a pre-mixed liquid and does not require very much at all.

Yep, Nutrafin does or did make a GH Booster. I got confused in the store though because on the same shelf they had the product labelled two different ways. One was straight up called GH Booster while the other was called African Cichlid Water Conditioner. Same product with the same barcode though.

I'll try to get my paws on some Replenish, it sounds like an all-around better product. Would I still need to use the KH Booster with that or is there an all-in-one that boosts everything?

And an FYI, don't let your Nutrafin test instruction booklet get wet. I don't know what kind of finish they put on those glossy pages but it turns to glue when it's damp. My booklet essentially turned into plywood!

That's a bummer!

I have never found a product that does it all, funny right?

The actual minerals do it all like aragonite and limestone etc but not a product you can buy over the counter. It seems like there would be something that would contain both the carbonates and salts together. If you ever find something let me know

I will definitely do that! Maybe there's a reason for that, like the carbonates and salts in solution react and fall to the bottom in some sort of precipitate that's useless to the water chemistry

At any rate, both inhabitants of the tank are active and eating like horses so there can't be too much wrong
