Should I get corydoras if my betta ate my snail?

I got a mystery snail about two weeks ago and unfortunately, my betta fish Neptune ate one of its antennae. From then on, it kind of hid and was floating on the surface for less than a day before I picked it up and smelt it and knew instantly that it was dead. My betta also chased around the shrimp. The thing is, that he never flared at them once. I don’t think he was actually aggressive but maybe he wanted a snack?

I’m just looking for advice on what to do next. Because my tank is 10 gallons and my LFS said that I should be able to get a small group of corydoras or Pygmy corydoras, I’m contemplating whether I should or not. He wasn’t aggressive towards the shrimp or snail, just wanted to eat them maybe? I have a smaller rams horn snail and he doesn’t seem to bother it at all. So if you have any advice, please let me know!
thanks! :)

I would say it's probably not a great idea. Some bettas are more chill, but your's doesn't seem to be.

You shouldn't get corries because your tank is too small.

LFS advice needs to be taken with a huge chunk of salt...

Yeah, thank you! I think I’ll just stick with the single betta for now.

Ohh, sorry I didn’t realise. Many people on here were saying that to have corydoras your tank should by 6+ gallons, so I thought it would be ok. My LFS is really professional though, so maybe it’s just the employee who gave me the wrong advice…? Thanks though!

nerite snails might be better. their antennae are shorter and they have a little trap door to seal themselves in if a betta tries to bother it. it's what I have in my betta tank since my own betta is similarly aggressive. I wouldn't put any fish in though, and corys should be in groups of 6+ and that means a tank of at least 20 gallon. a dwarf cory school might be okay in a 10 gallon but they would have to be the only fish I would think, or with only a couple other peaceful fish. if your betta was going after a snail, he'll definitely go after these though.

Thanks for the advice! I might get a nerite snail this week or next week, if I can, and see how it goes. :)
