Should I do a water change and gravel clean on the same day?

I know it’s a stupid question, but should I clean the gravel and do a water change? I’m planning on setting a schedule of water changes and gravel cleans weekly, should I do them both on the same day?

I usually do both at the same time. Beauty of a gravel vac. Sucks the junk out the gravel and the water all at once.

I do the same thing. I focus on deeply gravel vacuuming up to half the area of the aquarium gravel, or up to half of the aquarium water being moved out, whichever is first in my 10 gallon aquarium. I personally alternate between the left side and the right side of the aquarium, and keep track on a physical calendar. I'm also curious on every else's responses, since I'm also still learning.

Ok thanks! I’m going to set a routine: every week, gravel clean, 50% water change.

I also use the gravel vac to do both at the same time. I try not to do the entire tank at once. I usually only deep clean half and then get any loose junk off the top of the other side. Removing too much of the good bacteria is a bad thing.

There are still some questions about gravel vacuuming, is it useful or not? My opinion is, do not clean gravels. But we can vacuum the sediments those accumulated on bottom. But of course, we should keep this vacuuming short as much as we can.

What if we vacuum all of the gravels very well, then what happen?
Firstly, we would destroy too much good bacteria. Because eventually they live on gravels. Secondly, when we move gravels for vacuuming or cleaning, we lift ammonia that accumulated under gravels, which is bad for fishes.

These are my opinions about cleaning and vacuuming gravels.

I have sand, so I just keep my siphon 1/4th of an inch away from the sand. Any poop, food, debris is vacuumed along with the water.

The filter holds enough beneficial bacteria. I highly recommend vacuuming gravel or any other suitable substrate.
Its important to keep the tank clean and that does not have to be at the expense of BB.
So I disagree with you.

Is there proof of that claim though? I don't think the filter even comes close to the substrate.

On the other topic, the brown mulm is not fish poop. They're very different. Vacuuming up the mulm does not necessarily make a tank "cleaner". Just my opinions
