I have a massive piece of orobo root and was thinking if I should boil it or not
How long should i boil it for to release the tannins

Yes for 30 min to remove tannins

To be honest, boiling won't do much other than sterilization. You can boil it till the water is opaque with Tannins, but most woods will still release Tannins for years.
I've been boiling a piece of mopani (purely to get Tannins) for weeks and it still produces extremely strong tannins and will for years.
