Should I be concerned?!?

Newbie1234

So I got a betta yesterday and it has been hiding behind my driftwood ever since. Kai(bettas name)is soooo tiny I am guessing he is about 3-5 months old. But Kai has started going in a hole in the back of the driftwood, I guess why I am asking if I should be concerned is I just keep thinking kai is stuck.

(He is alive, I saw him move)

Also he has a blue eye and a brown eye... should I worry?

Oh hes so cute! I really hope hes just being shy. Maybe turn the lights off for a few days to see if he comes out? Is your tank all cycled so we dont have to worry about that?

Kai is swimming fine(as far as I have seen)

It was cycled before any fish were added.

Does he come out when the lights are off?

Should I just assume he is scared and just hiding?
Also, what about the eyes?

Bettas are born like that sometimes. As are humans, other fish and animals.

I am not sure, currently I am hanging out by the tank and the lights are off and he is still in the hole.
But early today, he did this and I freaked and thinking he was stuck and moved the driftwood and he came out.

Hes probably just hidein out. Maybe you could get some Indian Almond leaves or Alder cones to darken the water a bit for him.
IMO I don’t like the look of tannins. But yes I know how beneficial they are.
Is there anything else I can do to make him more comfortable?

try duck weed

it creates a natural barrier fish can hide under at top of tank

they are prey & being out in the open may make them uncomfortable

I have 13 bettas, they all love it. some even sleep under neath it.

I just make sure to move some out as it grows so only 3/4th of tank surface is covered or use a ring. I've had no issues the last 18 months using it. keeps water healthier too - less nitrates!

this is my shrimp tank, but all my tanks but for my silver dollar fish look like this
