Do I need a powerhead for my 55 gallon African ciclhid tank?? If so, best placement/gph??
I'm running a ac110 and soon to have a sponge filter in the back right corner.
I would reccomend using a powerhead if you notice any areas where debris builds up... in saying that, you could just use a power head that attached to the sponge, instead of using air driven filtration?
I would use a power head, the ones that look like underwater fans, as they don’t have the jet output, but more of a widened area of flow. I would go for a 700-800 gph pump. But as AussieJJDude said, you could just add a regular powerhead to the sponge filter if you really want the sponge filter.
