Should I add cherry shrimp to my betta tank?

You could, but the yellow and cherry shrimp could possibly interbreed and make ugly shrimp. Also, the betta will eat all shrimplets.

Yeah I'm not too interested in the offspring. Plus the red shrimp seem like a better fit with my red betta.

Yes they will interbreed but the betta maybe like mine and not care about the shrimp... Thus leaving a tank full of shrimp lol

What's so bad about the mixing of species? Are their traits not dominant or what? Would it make weak reds? I'm confused by that.

You'll most likely end up with brown or wild coloration assuming the babies actually survive.

You may want to reconsider adding shrimp to a betta tank. Check out the thread in the link above. The members betta is choking on a shrimp.
