Shell Dwellers In Ca?

HI everyone,

I'm planning on buying some Neolamprologus (Shell-Dwellers) for one of two 20+ gallons aquariums I'll be getting soon. But I've experienced some confusion. According to That Fish Place/That Pet Place they don't sell their Neolamprologus sp. to California where I live due to laws restricting them. However an Oregon location I've found on Ebay says that they do. SO now I'm confused as too the topic: Are Shell-Dweller Cichlids illegal to transport or own in California? I'd definitely appreciate any explanations or directions to places where I could possibly find the answer. Otherwise I'll just fall back on another fish in mind.

 

Welcome cali. Strange, I haven't run into that. This document could be old, but according to the list of restricted animals, https://www.offthewallemporium.com/primates/lawswlex.pdf under Cichlids, they only have the following:

(O) Family Cichlidae - Cichlids
1. Tilapia sparrmanI (Banded Tilapia) (D).
2. Tilapia zillI (Redbelly tilapia) (D), except permits may be issued to a person or agency for importation, transportation, or possession in the counties of San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Diego, and Imperial.
3. Tilapia aurea (Blue tilapia) (D).
4. Tilapia nilotica (Nile tilapia) (D).

 

I’ve never heard of them being illegal. You can message Bubbas living emporium in Socal and ask if he can get you some. He said he has a friend that’s in the middle of getting some to breed.

I'm not familiar with Bubba's Living Emporium, is he located in California? I live in the Bay. I'd appreciate the fry after they've grown. Tank-raised all the way baby

Yeah they’re in SoCal, in OC. So a bit too far haha. I’d check in with your LFS, they should be able to get you some. Also Trinsfish(dot) com has some for sale.
