I need your help! My betta is in a 3.5 gallon tank with a heater, filter and a live plant. No rough edges and only silk plants. He has severe fin rot with white sport on him. I put primafix in his tank but his fin rot is getting worse. What should I do??

I recommend dosing Macaryn 2. Lots of water changes, and turning up the heat a bit is helpful.

What do you feed him and what are the exact water parameters?

I agree with this, dose both maracyn and maracyn 2 to attack gram negative and positive bacteria. Keep water exceptionally clean with extra water changes.

He is in a 3.5 gallon tank, nitrites and ammonia are both 0 ppm. He has a filter with bio media rocks in it plus the carbon filters. He eats frozen blood worms

Do you have any nitrates ? Is his tank cycled ? Also i hope his diet isn't bloodwrms everyday as they are specifically only treats because they are very high in fat and can cause any fish to be constipated. I would buy him some nutrient rich pellets and feed him the bloodworms once or twice a week. It wouldnt hurt to fast him once a week either

For the fin rot, clean water help best. I would do more frequent water chnages with temp and conditioned water. I suggest ordering some Indian almond leaves and roobios tea to release tannin and help his scales.

I thought I included that he eats seachem betta pellets as well.

I got the water tested and they said it was high in nitrates. I am dosing him with pimafix should I still do water changes?

whats your nitrate level? it shouldnt be no higher than 10ppm for Bettas. if it is, then yes you need to do a water change asap to get it between 5ppm-10ppm. Your fish can get Nitrate poisoning and die. Do you have any Ammonia/Nitrite in the water? Also I wouldnt use Pimafix, Its just basic oils that wont help much. I would use something stronger from online like Furan-2, Seachem Paraguard, FungusCure or Maracyn 1

I am having the exact same problem! My betta’s entire top fin is gone and now it’s going into his body. There is a hole in his back with white covering it. I have tried Pimafix, Bettafix and Fungus Guard. I thought it was fungus but now I am sure it is fin rot. I ordered Maracyn 2 online and it is supposed to arrive in 2 days. I feel so horrible that I haven’t been able to help him. I’m unhappy that I’ve wasted so much money on treatments that haven’t done a bit of good. Thanks for the advice on this thread.
