Several Generalized Questions...

Alright, so instead of me creating multiple posts, I thought I'd create one thread in regards to several questions I have about Freshwater aquarium keeping...

Question 1: My water is cloudy white, not excessive, but it isn't crystal clear and hasn't for days. Ammonia & Nitrite 0, Nitrate 5, just added extra filtration (cuz it was 75 gph on a 10gal, so added an additional 100gph internal filter)

Question 2: Even though many describe my Dwarf Gourami not being able to be happy in a 10 Gallon (PetsMart misinformed me), he seems to be living pretty happily. Is being in a 10 gallon going to kill him?

Question 3: My tank substrate is boring as all ****. I see folks with these beautiful aquascaped tanks with Moss @ dirt type substrates. Where the heck do I get that and how do I convert a tank using crappy rock substrate to that beautiful kind? It seems as if it would be a **** of a lot of work to convert a ranks substrate.

Question 4: My KuhlI Loach will not stop spazzing out and swimming in circles, it is driving me and my other fish crazy! I think I might return him. Any ideas?

Question 5: If infact my aquarium has a non-BB bacterial bloom, by adding the extra filtration I did today, can that in fact help remove these pest bacteria making the water cloudy! I already used Seachem clarity and it hasn't helped.

What is your whole stock as DGs and kuhlI loaches are not suited for a 10 gallon? A bacterial ploom will dicipate in time, once the BB out compete it for nutrients . I use black diamond sand others use pool filter sand . its cheap and can be found at most hardware stores. The extra filter won't get rid of the bacteria .

I have already expressed my opinions of question 1 and 2 on your other thread but heres the rest!
3) Substrate is difficult to change but in a small tank it shouldnt be too hard. I'm on my second week of changing the gravel outof my 60 for sand and I'm almost done! As for what to use it depends if you're looking for dirt, sand or just a prettier gravel?
4)KuhlI loaches should be in groups of 6-8+ and need a 29 gallon tank minimum, he is likely stressed out with the lack of space and also may m=not like settling down onto the gravel as it could be too sharp, they really prefer a smooth gravel or sand substrate

I think putting a DG isn't supposed to be in a 10 gallon but I don't think it would kill him.

You're correct the DG won't die directly because of the lack of space, however the stress caused by this will greatly decrease the likelihood of him lasting very long. As fish keepers our first concern should always be the happiness and well-being of the fish, not trying to play the system to have our favorite fish in a tank that isn't suitable for it. You should do what you can to rehome the DG and kuhlI loach or buy a bigger tank and more kuhlI loaches to create a well balanced, happy stocking.
