HI I’m setting a 5 gallon tank up for a temporary home to put my LFS fish in for a couple days before transferring the fish into my big tank. But I noticed a filliment kinda thing on the top of the water, what is that and how would I get rid of that I’ve never had that happen before(there are no fish in the tank). There a heater and that is it currently

May be just biofilm. Does the tank have any surface agitation?

No it doesn’t and is biofilm bad?

Not necessarily, but you should get rid of it. What kind of filter do you have running on the tank? An HOB should clear it.

This is not what your question is...however, I just wanted to say....I highly suggest longer than 2 days in the quarantine tank. You should do more like 2-4 weeks. (or more) There are many things that can go hidden for quite some time before you discover them. Two days is not long enough to determine if the fish is healthy or not.

Next...how do you plan to cycle the QT tank? Do you have an extra filter, or extra filter media from your main tank that you plan to use? What do you have going on it right now?
