Setting up a Tank on the Floor with Carpet?

HI FishLore!
Not too long ago I moved into a new house and I finally ran out of tank room LOL! And since Petco was having their sale on tanks I decided to pick one up. So, my question is how would I go about setting up a tank on the floor, which is carpet. I'm really tight on money and really don't have a lot of money to go out and buy another stand. That's the main reason why I decided going with an on ground tank. I know that if I had hardwood in wouldn't be that difficult buy since I have carpet and its more and likely not level what would the best thing to do to set it up on carpet? I was thinking maybe a piece of ply wood? I really don't what to do. Its just a 10 gallon so it's not that big by the way.
Thanks!

You could likely easily put that on top of a dresser, or on a bookshelf...

However if you must have it on the floor and it's a ten gallon tank, you don't need anything special. Make sure it's reasonably level before you fill it and you'll be fine.

Pretty much every other dresser and bookshelf I have is already taken up by other tanks. However, would you recommend placing anything in particular under the tank? Also, is it going to be a problem if I place the tank near a heating vent?

A tank on the bare carpet should be good, but I would say a DIY Stand will cost another $20 if you know the basics of how a stand structure is made. But there is videos on youtube. If you want to go down this road let me know, I can help you tremendously!

Run by Walmart and grab the Elmer's White Poster Board. It's a four ply board that you can place under your tank to help keep it even on carpet. You can even stack them (2) to help protect your carpet.

I wouldn't set the tank near a heating vent as that can affect your tank temperatures.

Instructions attached to a new 10G we picked up recently say not to place it near heating went

I would not put a tank directly on the carpet. Sooner or later carpet will get wet and start rotting.

Fact: carpet will mold under the tank. I just went over to my mothers house to move a box of clothes that had been on the carpet for a time and the carpet was moldy.

I would suggest these furniture movers under each corner (they are 3/4" thick):

I called Aqueon tech support yesterday, and they said you can set their tanks on the corners or however really. They test their tanks by filling it completely to the top with lead shot. Now that's a heavy tank!

Edit: The sliders will allow you to move the tank around. If you look at my gallery picture you will see them under my 10 gallon tank.

Are you sure? Without a thick/strong board underneath? If the bottom of the tank starts sagging in the middle/center disaster is inevitable. Are there any engineers in residence at Fishlore?

I asked the same questions of the Aqueon engineer. The above is just a paraphrase of what he told me.

Hello Beau, both are effective, though most of us use TSS. Do a quick forum search, you will find a tremendous amount of information pertaining to TSS and fish in cycling. Best of luck.
