29 Gallon Tank Setting Up A New 29 Gallon Tank

Yeah you got some ammonia but it's hard to tell the level. It looks like your nitrates could be 10. I would do the water change just be sure not to do more than 50% and if it were me, I would test all 3 again a few hours after before you transfer them, just to get a baseline. Have you heard if KH and GH? And did you ever test your tap water? I don't remember you posting results of your tap water. It's pretty important as it's needed as another baseline.

My plan: tomorrow I will clean my 55 gallon, sump out 50% of my water from my 29. Fill my 29 gallon up then fill my 55, give my 29 gallon about an hour to get water to tank temps. After I sump out 50% I'm adding the decor from my 10 to my 29, waiting about an hour (takes me that long to fill back up my 55 gallon) then I will be adding my fish from my 10 to my 29. Then I'll sump out my 10 and start dismantling it. Does that sounds like a good plan? I'll so test before I remove any water then I'll test an hour after adding fresh water.
I did a 50% W.C on my 29 gallon. Here's the before results and I have already put my fish in and here's what it looks like. Ignore the background I have to get a new one.

Hey yall! I bought 3 Java ferns just now from petsmart. They are all green, not wilted at all, not brown, looking good. Before I place in my 55 gallon and 29 gallon, what soak mixture do I need to use? I know your suppose to soak them, but how do I soak all 3? Also, how long do they need to soak? TIA
Also to add I bought a log as well... how do I soak that? Or do I need to?

They are in the air right now in the package. Once you put them in your tank they may "melt" or wilt some at first. They need to grow their "water" leaves.

Ceramic I believe. The plants came like this.. do I need to unstring the bottom or just tie to the wood?

Ok make sure there are no loops in it. Fish have gotten caught in fish line loops.

You could use that but the carbon wont last very long and you will need something you dont have to replace. I just ordered those! Be here November 9th! Now do you have a pic or Link for the bags? I seen some at petco but they had sooo many lol. I won't replace any media until after my full 5 day treatment of this medication and I read to use carbon to draw out the excess medication. Is this true? Do I need to use carbon just for a few days? Weeks? Months? Or is it good to use 24/7/365? Definitely looking to buy media that I don't have to change every month in both tanks! So I may buy that foam again and use it also on my 55 gall.

 

A few days with carbon should draw out the meds. I would leave it for a week then take it out.

Any bag that looks like it will fit inside your filter. I would pick one with loose enough mesh to not drop your media out. Kind of like nylons and fish net stockings. There are a lot of different kinds. I will look for one.

Remember too to take that white cloth off the cartridge and put it in the bottom under the sponge.

This is only for 20 gallons but I'll check my local petco and see if I can find something similar for my 29 and 55 which I'll try and go with 30-40 and then 60 so it's oversized for my tank. Also do you think I need a 2nd filter for my 29? Or is 1 filter enough? Idk I thought about getting a filter 40 for my 29 gallon but I also don't want to just replace all at once. I'm still trying to figure everything out lol.

On the 55 I have 2 60's and the 29 I think it came with a 30... I didn't buy one, it came with the tank kit.

No carbon. Just like the pic, small rings or something in a bag. Use that with the white sponge. You dont need carbon on a daily basis.

So apparently someone stole my foam pads I ordered. It stated delivered and signed for by Pam, but I don't know a Pam! Also said it wad left in my mailbox, which was not the case. I never seen them and they were never delivered!!! So, I'm going to Alabama this weekend and I'll stop by petco and see if they have them and I'll just pick them up there. I also added 4 carbon strips to my 29 gallon yesterday after their W.C. so that will draw out that medicine I dosed the tank with. I'm just so frustrated!!! Who in their right mind would steal some dang foam pads!?!?

See if they have some kind of filter floss. You can get cheaper stuff on Amazon I bet though. I use this. You can cut whatever size you need. Works great.

Once I get all this how does it all work lol I'll be putting it in Thursday or Friday, after my next W.C. once I take these carbon strips out.

The only thing in there is the 4 strips of carbon. I don't have anything else in there.

I think the pre filter and bio max are different things. It looks the same but it sounds like the pre filter stuff was used before in older models but they use the white sponge now. I think it may work but it may load up or break down fast. I will have to read more.

I just don't wanna mess anything up but I also couldn't find the dang mesh bag either

 

Shoot I just realized that bag has bio max in it.

Ok this is what I would do.

1) On The BOTTOM of the filter use the carbon sponge that is in there now.
- If anyone thinks this is a bad idea please speak up. This is the only seeded material left.

2) Cut the white sponge to fit on top of the carbon.

3) place the biomax bag on top of the white sponge. Thats it for now. it can stick out some but not a lot.

Replace the carbon filters one at a time with chunks of that black sponge you bought. do this over a couple months. If only one carbon fits just use one. Its better than nothing for now. replace it a month from now.
