I have recently found out that my 2 baby parrot cichlids will need a 55 gallon and I am planning on upgrading soon, but don't know what filter to use.
I have an aquatop canister filter that I was saving for when my goldfish were going to get bigger. Should I use that? It's for 75 gallon I think.
I also have one true SAE and one more baby cichlid. They are all in a 30 right now. I heard that SAEs need to be in a school, would I be over stocked if I put them in a 55 with the 2 parrots and one cichlid?

What species is the baby cichlid?

BPs need warmer water than SAEs, so I wouldn't add them together. Can you rehome the lone SAE?

What kind of goldfish do you have and what size tank are they in? Any reason why you're not using that canister on them now?

Since you'll eventually need that canister for the goldies, I'd get a different filter for this tank. Do you like HOBs or canisters better?
