Serious Eating Issues With Osar.

I have a oscar about a solid 7or 8 inches in a 75 gallon. And all of a sudden he stopped eating his pellets. So I tried some frozen food. And he ate for a while. Then I mixed the pellets with frozen food. And he was fine. Then he completely stopped eating. Ive tried all kinds of pellets. Frozen blood worms, brine shrimp, beer heart, frozen krill. Fresh shrimp. Home bred live feeders. Crickets. Worms. Food soaked in garlic. I can't get him to eat anything. Sometimes he'll take it then spit it out. This is been going on for a month.

I've kept oscars for a very long time and I've never had this happen. I recently started medicating just in case he might be sick but nothing yet

Water quality is perfect. I've had it tested with every test imaginable. By myself and multiple high quality water tests and multiple very good fish stores

Never heard of an oscar not eating. Mine would eat anything he could whether he was supposed to or not. Could he of swallowed something that's keeping him from eating? Stones or marbles kind of things.

He picks up little rocks all the time but spits them out quickly. . I'm getting worried. I've been medicating for about a week now. But still won't come around.

He is definitely loseing weight. And he's hiding alot. Won't come to the glass when it's feeding time. Very shy and timid. I didn't change anything in his tank or outside.

Like I said water qualities are in great shape. Nothing was changed to cause him to do this. I've had lots of Oscars before. I know how picky they can be

I believe after watching and owning many Oscars. That it is a female. Cause she's about 8 or 9months old. Ive noticed her digging alot. Could sexual maturity be a part of what's going on. ?

DarkOne, are you online? Think you've kept oscars before correct? (I love them, and want one, but haven't had the pleasure as of yet! Hope she gets to feeling better soon!!)

Edit: just noticed David1978 is too now! LOL

Yea, rereading through the thread, I was wondering the same.

I had an oscar that would occasionally get sick of his pellets and make me change it up every now and then. The only thing he never got tired of was the frozen foods (Mysis and bloodworms).

can you post a picture of him? Does he have any pitting of the head or lateral line?

I don't remember any of my oscars every having issues of not eating. Their main diet was feeder fish (guppies and goldfish that were QT'd). HikarI pellets were also part of their diets.

You said your water was perfect but didn't say what the reading was. Can you post ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph? Water hardness helps but they usually adapt to most. Maybe do a few 25% water changes every day (or other day) for a week or so? Are there other tank mates possibly bullying her?
