I saw these snails at Petsupermarket. They were marked "Horned Snails"
I just had a couple questions. I tried to google them, but I only found "Horned Nerite Snails". Are these the same?
They had about 3 or 4 "points" on their shells, and were "swirled" black and white.
I was just wondering if they were asexual or hermaphrodites? I have had some good luck with snails and some really bad luck. So I am very cautious. Thanks for any help!

They are the same. You may be more familiar with tracked nerites (red with black spots) or zebra nerites (black and white stripes). They're proficient algae eaters. I love mine, his name is Mr Snail because I'm super creative They are not hermaphroditic; they require two snails to make more snails. Additionally the offspring require brackish water to develop, so even if you have two you don't need to worry about too many snails.

They are horned nerites. I have an olive version of those guys, and he is a good little algae eater, even though he is very small. My tracked, or ruby nerite (same thing) as KZ described above, lays eggs all over the tank. Driftwood, plants, glass, other snails - she doesn't care! lol They look like little sesame seeds, and are nearly impossibly to get off.

And, as KZ said, (this is your new name, now btw lol) they cannot hatch/develop in freshwater, so you won't need to worry about being over-run. They are great little snails to have. They eat algae, stay small, and don't bother anyone!

I have a variety of nicknames That's okay, you're the snail lady in my book haha. I was thinking of getting a horned nerite for my 2.5 gallon snail tank because they don't get as large as other varieties of nerites.

Nerites are cleaning machines. It is well worth cleaning off the occasional eggs in trade for the excellent algae cleaning that they do. They are also very pretty and look good just being in your tank.

Good morning,

I have Nerites, Horned and Zebra's and they really make a nice addition to the tank.

They do not eat Black Beard Algae but they do well with eating other types of algae. They can be picky eaters and may not appreciate foods other than real algae.

I've had them for several months now. 5 in my 33g long tank.

Too, make sure your tank is covered with no escape routes. I found one cruising along the floor about 3' away from the tank. Luckily I was home and found it, placed it back in the tank and it was fine.
