Seeding Sponge Filter In Established Tank?

So I've got a established 10 Gallon aquarium and I just recently bought a new sponge fliter I'd like to run it instead of my current hang on the back... So is it possible to seed the sponge filter for beneficial bacteria while also running my existing hang on the back? Is this possible over filtering the tank it's a guppy Aquarium home to 4 guppies currently..

No IMO you can never over filter. Yes you can run the sponge filter with the HOB you will need to run them together for a minimum of a month to seed the sponge filter then you should be good to remove the HOB if you choose to and be ok with the cycle...
