I learned today that my local fish store only quarantines fish for 3 day, so it looks like I am going to be setting up my firs quarantine tank. I am going to be getting a handful of tetras next week and have a 10 gallon tank and I'm confident in my ability to set it up correctly, but I am concerned about seeding it from my main tank. The sponges in it are too big for the small filter I have for this tank and so I was wondering if moving some of my moss balls over would suffice.

The moss balls would probably help, but if you have used filter media could you cut it down so it does fit in the new filter? Or if not, just put it in the back of the tank.

Cool, so as long as the sponge is in the water it'll do what it needs to do?
