Second filter for Juwel 180 suggestions?

I've got a Juwel Rio 180 litre (47 gallon) tank on the way, it should arrive on Monday! It comes with the juwel bioflow m internal filter. Will this be enough for the tank on its own? If it's not is there another budget filter that you would recommend to go along side the bioflow?

I've got a juwel Rio 180 litre (47 gallon) tank on the way which is supposed to arrive on Monday. It comes with the juwel bioflow m internal filter which I think is 600lph. I've heard that this won't be enough for the tank by itself so was thinking of getting another filter to run along side it. I was thinking of the seachem tidal 75 hang on back filter but I would have to cut the lid of the tank a bit and I'm not sure how easy that would be, if anyone's done this please let me know! If anyone has any suggestions for a second (budget!) Filter that would work, and is available in the UK, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

Can’t say that I’ve used it but at a claimed flow rate of 600lph, I’d be looking for some additional filtration alongside it. Depends on how stocked your tank will be as well, but you have the options of a sponge filter, hang on back or canister.

The juwel filter it comes with should be enough but depends on how many fish you want.

I run a large sponge filter alongside the juwel filter 1200lph on my Rio 300 and it's doing a fair job. If I do upgrade filtration it would be with a canister. All juwel tanks are cut for the inlet/outlet tubes.

Im not sure how easy it would be to cut the lid on a rio. The flaps are quite thin and brittle really. A series of drilled holes and a box cut blade may work. I've done that before with rigid plastics.

Best budget filter in my opinion would be an internal filter or sponge.

It would be great if the original filter is enough! I've heard a filter should turn over 5-10x the amount of water in the tank though? I was thinking of an external and internal but was put off by the price of external ones (even the second hand ones are expensive!) and thought that 2 internal ones would take up a lot of room in the tank, but would still consider an internal.

Edit: after looking at prices of internal filters for the same tank volume, they actually seem like much better value! Do you have any internal one that you would recommend? Thank you so much!

All pond solutions are very well priced for canisters and internal filters!

No experience but the reviews are excellent. I'm UK too.

Eheim make great internal filters but are not cheap. Where I work they sell the Betta range of internals which are cheap. No idea if any good though.

I have the exact tank and filter and it’s pretty good filtration wise . The pump is pretty strong and you can angle the outlet pipe to break the water surface if you want . Mine got clogged once by filter floss ( my fault ) it’s very easy to strip and clean the impeller. It has two already cut out holes for wires on the hood , one each side at the back , so you could run the normal filter and plug another internal on the other side. I’ve been wondering about this myself lately as I have pleco whose messy and well no such thing as too much filtration right?
