My family gathered sea shells from a local beach. They, and of course myself, was wondering if it is possible to use them in a fresh water tank. Is this possible and if so is there prep work that needs to be done?

Just clean them up really well in fresh water, make sure all the gunk gets cleaned out from the spiralled shells.

Boiling is always good, and just be aware that they'll bump up the pH, kH and gH a bit.

Agree. Also be aware that they will slowly dissolve so if you want to keep any of them for souvenirs don't put it in the tank. :) I actually use seashells to raise and keep my PH stable.
