Just started
what's a small schooling fish for a 20 Long.
The only twist it that they must be ok in water with a pH of around 7.6-8
I'm thinking along the lines of Rasboras and Tetras.
Any ideas?

Harlequin rasboras,I have 8 in a school and 70% of the time they are in tight formation. With a long tank they should put on a cool display.

If you want to get something more off the beaten path then go with danio choprai. Dennis (Danionins.com) on this site had some listed on aquabid yesterday but he probably got a sale, they really are great fish.

+1 on the harlies i have them and they are pretty.....they have a rosy gold copperyness to them. i have them in a 20H. a long would be nice for them so school side to side. I should have gone with a long instead! oh well....i'm dreaming of 75 gallon. i wonder how many i could get in there

I'm going to suggest harlequins as well... I have 5 right now in my 20 long and looking to add 5 more because they are so colorful and active fish.

What about some cherry barbs? They are schooling fish and the males are a bright red that would add a pop of color in your tank. There is also neon tetras that are small, you could get a school of 5 of those and a small school of cories. Or you could get a small school of neons with a few honey gouramis. Good Luck!

BAs have a reputation for being nippers, like serpaes.

I've heard that about ba, but have had no problem with mine. Mine are in a tank with 8 zebra danios, 2 of which are longfins.
