On my 20 gallon tank, I have black diamond blasting sand and when I try to vacuum the substrate, the sand gets sucked through the gravel vac and into the bucket. How do I stop this from happening?

You can crimp the hose so it less suction, but most of the time with sand you kind of just swirl the tube over top the sand and don‘t actually put it into the sand.

I tried to swirl it over the sand and it's so light that it was sucked in anyways.
How do I crimp the hose?

What size blasting sand did you get? Try swirling it further away.
you just kink the hose until it only sucks up a little.
