Salvaging Anacharis + Creeping Charlie

I bought some anacharis that was in pretty bad shape from petco. put it in my tank, not expecting much, and it quickly died (betta kept trying to eat the melting leaves too lol).

I snipped off a few green "buds" from the mother stems and let them float. they're less than an inch long. will they eventually grow into anacharis stems or will they just die?

additionally, does anyone have experience with creeping charlie "micromeria brownei" grown submersed in an aquarium? I bought some to hopefully replace the anacharis.

thanks!

My experience is that Anacharis likes cooler water.. it tends to yellow, and die quickly during shipping to the Petco stores (they dry ship plants). So... those green buds ''may'' put out roots if it likes your tank... its worth a shot

As for the Creeping Charlie... I bet that would fair better than the anacharis… and the betta would love loafing on/under the leaves...

yeah. unfortunately I can't find any nice-looking anacharis at any of my lfs and it's too hot to order shipped plants right now. I know it's a toss up when it comes to warmer water, but I wanted to try.

he loves it, he was zooming in between stems while I was planting them lol. wouldn't get out of my way. he always has to inspect new plants. I had to do a lot of clipping for this too plant too but I hope it'll adjust to my tank and being submersed and grow well.

You can plant the anacharis and put a root tab next to it and it will grow. Water temp doesn't seem to matter much from my experience. I had them growing in tanks from 76° to 82°F. I usually plant mine and a couple happened to be planted next to some root tabs for other plants but the anacharis grew amazingly.

*Edit*
The buds you have can be planted and with a root tab, should grow nicely as long as your betta leaves it alone.

I wouldn’t plant it. Especially since it’s really small. Just let it float and have it close to the light and give it plenty of ferts. It should grow in no time. But don’t change the regular tank temp either, it needs to adjust to your regular tank conditions. I currently have some growing in 79F.

I’ve never owner creeping charlie but from what I just read, it should do fine in its submerged form.

I ordered some plants off ebay today, hoping they do well during transport.
