Salt water drift wood.?

Hello, I found a beautiful driftwood while on a beach and it just removed the barks and cleaned it up with a metal brush and screw driver to dig out any undesirable soft areas.

I also baked it at 200 F for 4 hours.

Should I do anything else before adding it my fresh water aquarium? My water pH is 7.4 - 7.6. gH = 0-30

Thank you!

I would see if you could soak it and test salinity using a hydrometer (cheap) so see if it leaks salt.

Soak that bad boy for a week or two and it should get all the salt out. It'll also help it sink, so you can do both at once!

Should I soak it in de-chlorinated water? Can I use the water from the tank?

Yes, and yes.

If you soak it you should do water changes on the bucket/tub.

Sorry, I don't understand. Are you saying I should do water change for the soaking wood?

Yes.

Otherwise, the salt will leak out but not all of it since it has to make equilibrium. Each time you change water some salt leaks out.. you need to do enough water changing to render the salt negligible.

oh ok. Got it. Thank you. how many days once? Can I change out the entire water fully? or should I change based on the readings?

The amount of salt would be negligible.

I would let it soak for a week or more and do a full water change each day. That way the water is new and more salt will leak out and you can remove that.. repeat.
