I have 14 neon tetras. One has been in the QT for 3 weeks now since I brought him home because his colors have been lighter than others. Well, tonight, he turned very pale. Poor thing probably has NTD. I am glad I never moved him out of QT into the main tank so no one is catching whatever he has, but it's so sad to watch this cute little one losing color. If it's NTD, then I don't think I want him to go through the curve spine and all. :'(

    Neon Tetra Disease

sorry your neon is having a rough time. But it is common in neons, and even if it's not true NTD, it could just be poor stock, as Neons have many problems due to inbreeding and poor shipping/keeping methods. Many breeders just seem them as super cheap fish they can mass produce, so they don't care about a few dying here and there. I have 15 now healthy and doing well in my 40 gallon tank, but it probably took 20 total to get 15 quality healthy ones.

It's neon tetra disease. There is no cure. :(

Thanks, Dolfan. You are right. People mass produce them causing them to be quite fragile. Such beautiful fish! A life, no matter how small, is precious. Watching this little one lose color and looking so inactive this morning is heart breaking.
