Sad Angelfish HELP

Hey,

I need some advice… I have a tall 350 litre tank with angelfish whom I love dearly. I previously had them in a smaller tank.
So what happened was, when my new tank finally cycled, I moved my fish over and they loved it, but after a few weeks I somehow ruined the cycle by maybe taking too much ornaments out which had the beneficial bacteria attached and I didn’t think atm. So of course I ended up with a high ammonia spike (Both my tanks I made sure my levels were at PH 7, amm 0, nitrite 0 and nitrate 20) so k had to move my fish back to previous tank, and obviously they didn’t like me very much, even though I’m saving their lives. Anyhow, I ended up buying a new filter for the bigger tank and waited for that to cycle, which was about 2 weeks ago now. So I started adding the fish back slowly cos I didn’t want to add too many at once. So now they are all back together and it’s been almost two weeks and they don’t seem themselves. They still don’t like me very much, when they loved me previously. Kinder hurts :( lol
They also don’t seem to want to eat the food the previously loved. They’re obviously still eating and I just can’t see them. They wouldn’t be alive if they weren’t right?
As I said, my levels are fine and they have more than enough plants etc. why are they still so down and depressed? I don’t know what to do. I thought of maybe buying another two angelfish as my tank will accommodate as I’ve only got 5 in a 350litre.

Instead of moving fish to another tank during an ammonia spike, just do a 50%+ water change on the tank and job’s a good one. Whenever the ammonia rises, just do a large water change. This is all you should’ve done.

Rather than from the word “fine” we would benefit from knowing the actual parameter readings.

Buying more fish isn’t going to coax the angels out of hiding. Don’t panic too much; I imagine they’ll settle down even after two weeks. I have a feeling you’ve severely stressed them out by moving them around so much to “save their lives.”

I suspect there is a problem with the water - are you sure nitrite and ammonia are 0; there nothing leaching in the tank; and the temp is around 78 ?

I agree, though it could have been said a little kinder. If you want them to be in the big tank for the remainder of their lives, then I would move them to the big tank right away, since they are already stressed, no point in waiting till the settle and then move them again.

Coming across as unkind isn’t my intention. I stated I didn’t want the OP to panic, and I don’t.

Anyways, I agree with you too. Move them between tanks often and they’ll never settle.

I would panic. Angels are not shy fishes and they clearly do not like something most likely it is the water.

Well all fish are a little shyer when introduced, some fish even won't eat right after being introduced. My angels, each time I introduced one to the tank they were very shy and hid for a while and then started coming out.

Been there, done that.

I moved a group from the fish room to the show tank this spring....took a couple months for them to forgive me

Gee you all have angels with an attitude. Mine never pout even when i have to occasionally move them to a 29 for a time-out. They always get a guilty look and come up to beg for forgiveness....
