Running HOB with canister filter

Can I run a HOB with a cannister filter, I wanted all the bio filtration to be in the cannister filter and the mechanical filtration to be in the HOB? I'm looking at a 525 gph canister filter would this be enough,and what size HOB should I use? It will be on a 75 gallon goldfish tank.

 

Yes.

 

It doesn't matte what size, however much you need for the mechanical filtration you want. And you can have both.

 

I think a canister and a sponge filter or two would be a cool combo as well if that appeals to you.

 

Our 65g community tank, 55g African cichlid tank and our 75g CA/SA cichlid tank each run a canister, HOB and sponge filter.

It's very easy to switch out a bit of Polyfil batting out of the HOB once a week.
