I'm wondering why my Rummynose tetras are hiding at the back of the tank when the aquarium light is on? When my bedroom light is on and the tank light is off they're out swimming. As soon as the aquarium light comes on they hide. It's a 20 gallon tall hexagonal tank and there are also cherry barbs and a black molly too.

Do the tetras looked like they're being nipped? Have you tested your water parameters lately? Are they coming out to eat?

No they don't look like they're being nipped, the tetras and barbs used to be fine together. It wasn't until after I put the molly in that they started hiding. They do come out to eat but go right back to the back of the tank and swim back and forth at the back of the tank.

It could be that they need more tetras in their school. They feel more secured with a large school

OK thanks. I just noticed that they are slowly coming out more. I will get some this week. How many should I get?

In a school of 6 should be good. The more the better, but usually the minimum is 6 for a school

OK thanks. Do you think they may have been stressed out because I added the mollie?

Not really. What kind of Molly do you have? Some mollies get too big for a 20 gallon tank.

Oh okay. Cause I've seen some really big mollies and they get too big for a 20 gallon tank.

I've just added 2 more Rummynose tetras making it 6 in total, they do seem to be more out and about in the tank as opposed to before having them hide.
